Registration and Costs

Registration options

You may choose to register as a resident ( ‘living in’ at Scots College) or as a commuter (travelling to and from the School daily). You can choose to attend:

  • Dance classes only. This option includes all morning classes, and any of the optional afternoon classes or activities you wish to attend.
  • Dance classes, plus the afternoon musician’s classes. If you choose this option, you will be expected to attend all musicians’ classes as well as morning dance classes.
  • Musicians’ class only. You do not need to be a dancer to attend this class. If you register for the musicians’ class you will be expected to attend each day.

Every person attending Summer School classes must complete a registration form.

What’s included in registration?

  • Full board (all meals and twin-share accommodation) from dinner on 28 December to breakfast on 5 January, inclusive.
  • Dance tuition in six morning dance classes. Complementary transport to/from any classes held at venues other than Scots College.
  • Entry to the musicians’ class (if you have chosen this option).
  • Entry to optional afternoon classes or organised excursions*, and all evening dances.
  • Dance tuition in six morning classes.
  • Entry to optional afternoon classes or organised excursions*
  • Entry to all evening dances
  • Inclusion of lunch each day (Commuter-plus option only)

* Costs of afternoon excursions are not included in registration costs.

As a commuter, you will need to make your own arrangements for accommodation, all meals, and travelling to/from classes and other School activities. You can purchase meal vouchers online if you wish to dine with your fellow dancers at the College.

Free parking for commuters is available on College grounds (limited spaces) or in the residential streets adjacent to the College.

A Commuter – Plus registration gives you the benefits of registration as a commuter, PLUS lunches in the College dining room on every day except New Year’s Day. Lunch times at Summer School are social occasions, and if you are planning to attend afternoon classes, or just want to continue the morning’s conversations, this may be an option for you. Meal vouchers for breakfast or dinner at the College are also available to purchase separately.

  • Entry to six afternoon musicians’ classes.
  • Entry to the evening dance on the final night of Summer School – you’ll be on-stage in the band, playing for some of the dances.

Two half-school registration options are offered for commuters:
First Half (or Year-End): From dinner on 28 December, to brunch on 1 January inclusive,
Second half (or New Year): from dinner on 31 December to breakfast on 5 January inclusive.
Both options include Hogmanay.

As accommodation is likely to be in high demand, half-school options are currently being offered for commuters only. Resident half-school options may become available later. If you are interested in this option, please contact the Organiser.

If you are not planning to attend day-time classes but would like to come to evening dances, you do not need to register. You may pay cash at the door for any evenings you attend, or you can pre-purchase tickets for evening dances online.

All costs are shown in NZ dollars and include GST.
You must have a current RSCDS membership card when you register to take advantage of the reduced RSCDS members costs.
*The Musician option is for those registering for only the musicians’ classes.  Musicians’ classes are included in the registration fee for dancers who wish to attend.

A deposit of $200 ($100 for JAMs) is due when you submit your completed registration form. Costs must be paid in full before 23 November 2027.

The balance of costs after you have paid your deposit may be made as a single payment, or in five equal instalments in April, June, August, October and November. See details, and indicate your preferred payment method, in your registration form.

The RSCDS NZ Branch offers a number of Scholarships for dancers and musicians attending a New Zealand Summer School. Applications close on 30 September. You can find more information and application forms on the Branch website.

Because of the difference in registration/application dates, the Branch recommends that you time your Summer School registration to avoid the late fee, rather than waiting for the outcome of any scholarship application. If your scholarship application is successful, the Branch will refund fees you have paid to register for Summer School.

Do costs include GST?
Yes – all costs are in NZ dollars and include GST.

Will I receive a refund if I am unable to attend the School?
A full refund of fees paid will be made for cancellations before 1 September 2027.
A 50% refund will be made for cancellations before 1 December (residents) or 15 December (commuters).
No refunds will be made for cancellations after 1 December (residents) or 15 December (commuters).

All refunds are subject to a NZ$100 administration fee.
The Organising Committee may consider refunds on compassionate grounds.
A full refund will be made if Summer School is cancelled for any reason by the RSCDS NZ Branch.

As a resident, can I nominate a room mate, or request a room close to my friends?
Certainly. There is space on the registration form for you to give us the information we need to arrange these for you. The Organising Committee will do its best to meet any requests.

Can I pay cash if I decide on any day to have a meal at the College?
No, sorry. Meal tickets must be purchased in advance so our caterers know how much food to prepare each day.
